The Animal Breeding Division (ABD) at the Institute of Animal Science (IAS) conducted a face-to-face training on the Basic DNA Analysis Workflow held last June 28 at the Animal Biotechnology Laboratory, Villegas Hall, IAS-UPLB.
Five participants composed of faculty members, researcher, laboratory technician, and project staff attended the said training that covered discussions on and demonstrations of the general workflow on DNA analysis.
DNA analysis is a set of protocols used in the assessment of genetic material and derivatives thereof as it applies to molecular biology, agricultural, and medicinal research.
Short lectures on the concepts of the DNA workflow were shared by Mr. John Vincent A. Garcia, Instructor from the Animal Physiology Division at IAS.
The training also included hands-on activities on micropipetting, genomic DNA extraction and quantification, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification, agarose gel electrophoresis, and result analysis.
The training was intended for IAS staff who will be assisting in the Midyear Research Internship for BS Animal Biotechnology students.
With Dr. Consuelo Amor S. Estrella, head of the Animal Breeding Division, as the overall training coordinator; and Asst. Prof. Jorge Michael D. Dominguez, Ms. Joy B. Banayo, and Ms. Katrina U. Aquino as training facilitators, the event ended with positive feedback from the participants.
