Busy? Sure! But we have the heart to find time to volunteer.

Joining the Brigada Eskwela, with the theme “Matatag na Bayan para sa Maunlad na Paaralan,” of the Paciano Rizal Elementary School in Brgy. Tuntungin-Putho, Los Baños are faculty and staff from the Institute of Animal Science (IAS) and the Dairy Training and Research Institute (DTRI), May 24.

Despite their busy schedules, about 50 volunteers from both institutes joined the back-to-school preparation as they put into good use their precious time, service, and skills in time for the opening of classes of the said school in June 3.

Both institutes donated cleaning materials and PhP 3 400 worth of paint (on a 50/50 sharing), which they themselves used to clean and repaint the classrooms and chairs. Also donated and properly installed in the classrooms were six electric fans from IAS and three from DTRI.

Joining them are members of Parents’ Association who prepared hot meals to fuel the energy of volunteers. Meanwhile, IAS sponsored hard boiled eggs while DTRI brought pan de sol, cheese, and softdrinks for everyone to eat.

Brigada Eskwela (or National Schools Maintenance Week) has been initiated by the Department of Education (DepEd) across the country. This initiative gives opportunities for volunteers to help in the maintenance work and clean-up of public schools to make sure that learning facilities are conducive for students as they anticipate the start of the school year.

For all your donations of books, toys, tables, chairs and more, you may visit the Office of the Principal at Paciano Rizal Elementary School Los Baños.

As Elizabeth Andrew said, “volunteers do not necessarily have the time; they just have the heart.”

Yes, we are busy but we have the heart to lend a hand.
