The Institute of Animal Science (IAS), in cooperation with the Department of Trade and Industry-Laguna, sealed an extension partnership through the Adopt-a-Community Project in Brgy. Aplaya, Pila, Laguna last July 2 at IAS Director’s Office.
The joint project aims to establish a training program on meat processing among selected women in the community. This initiative offers a fascinating insight into the feasibility of knowledge and experience transfer from experts to the public.
Dr. Cristy M. Bueno, assistant professor and main project proponent, expressed her appreciation for the
support and commitment of the IAS leadership for reaching a wider audience in extension services. She was optimistic that the project will create positive impact to the selected stakeholders and help them improve their livelihood.
The IAS-DTI partnership, therefore, offers promising results in helping the community people acquire not only technical input in animal products processing and technology, but also investment in infrastructure and equipment. The project reflects the efforts of IAS faculty and staff to extend public service to local communities by giving them access to trainings that would empower them further.
Dr. Rommel C. Sulabo, IAS director, also saw the possibility of including animal production component in the project since there are also swine raisers in the community. Susan R. Palo, provincial director of DTI, was optimistic that their agency will continuously support IAS in other future endeavors.
Also involved as project co-proponent is Kamla Zyra G. Lavadia, with Dr. Nenita L. de Castro as activity leader and head of IAS Extension Office.
