The Institute of Animal Science (IAS) held its 2019 Scientific Writing Workshop at the Philippine Judicial Academy Training Center, Tagaytay City, last November 12 – 13. The writeshop was aimed to develop the scientific writing skills of the junior faculty and REPS.
On the first day of the workshop, Dr. Rommel C. Sulabo (IAS director and editor-in-chief of The Philippine Agricultural Scientist Journal) delivered a lecture on scientific writing. He also shared his personal experiences and gave emphasis on plagiarism issues. Dr. Sulabo was followed by Dr. Consuelo Amor S. Estrella, editor-in-chief of the Philippine Journal of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (PJVAS). Dr. Estrella discussed different techniques, tips, and strategies on scientific writing. An exercise on scrutinizing each part of an article was also done. After the lecture discussions, each participant worked on their draft articles.
On the second day of the event, Dr. Percival P. Sangel (associate editor of PJVAS) served as the facilitator during the presentation of outputs. The participants presented their paper for Dr. Sulabo’s and Dr. Estrella’s evaluation.
Overwhelmed by the results of the writeshop, the IAS decided to conduct monthly meeting, named Paper Mondays, devoted to help the junior faculty and staff in developing their skills in scientific writing.
