IAS conducted a seminar titled “Poultry Production and Processing” last December 14-15 at the Animal Science Lecture Hall for 72 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) bound for Hungary to work in a poultry dressing plant.
The seminar was aimed to provide the participants basic knowledge on poultry production and processing, and familiarize themselves with post-production handling and dressing.
Dr. Rommel C. Sulabo, professor and IAS director, gave a briefing about the IAS and its poultry farm. Also serving as speaker was Dr. Noel B. Lumbo, assistant professor, who talked about the following topics: overview of the Philippine poultry industry, broiler and layer production, feeds and feeding, and basic health management. Dr. Oliver D. Abanto, associate professor, also discussed post-production handling and dressing of poultry and chicken cuts. The participating OFWs are managed by Quintrix International Manpower Agency, Inc., a land-based recruitment agency based in Makati City.
