The IAS recently conducted two training courses. The “Special Training Course on Basic Animal Nutrition and Feed Quality Assurance” was held last July 12-13 in a feedmill owned by the Balangay Feed Factory Inc. (BFFI) located in Barangay Cabcabon, Butuan City. It was attended by 15 BFFI staff composed of feed quality control officer, purchasing officer, inventory clerk, helpers, accounting clerk, security officer, and driver. The resource speakers were IAS Director Rommel C. Sulabo and Dr. Noel B. Lumbo. The training was aimed to provide updates on feed quality assurance to help improve the current practices in the feedmill; thus, improving the quality of finished feeds for the benefit of its clients.
Meanwhile, the “Short Course on Feed Quality Assurance” was held last July 29 –August 2 at the Animal Nutrition Division lecture room. The participants were 11 technical staff from nine DA regional field offices doing feed laboratory and feed regulatory functions; 11 owners and staff of private feed mills; three technical staff from private companies selling micro ingredients; two owners of private companies selling raw materials; and two private individuals. Resource speakers were Dr. Sulabo, Dr. Lumbo and Victoria Eden S. Walitang.
Dr. Nenita L. de Castro served as the training coordinator for the two courses. The laboratory/practicum part of the second training (chemical analysis and near infrared spectroscopy) was facilitated by John Carlo S. Pacia, university researcher, and Mario C. Barrion and Leodegario M. Umali, both laboratory technicians.
