Description: Genetic and statistical bases of livestock improvement;  selection and breeding systems; topics in reproductive biotechnologies.

Course Outcomes:

  • To know the basic concepts and principles of the genetic and statistical bases of livestock improvement, selection and breeding systems and introduction to reproductive biotechnologies as they relate to selection of genetically superior animals
  •    To compute for segregation ratios of different type of gene action, heritability estimates, inbreeding coefficients and heterosis
  •  To appreciate the relevance of animal breeding as a field of animal science
