The Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Biotechnology (BS ABT) program aims to produce graduates who (1) exhibit sufficient level of technical competency, with social commitment in science-based agricultural biotechnology; (2) maintain values with global ethical perspective in the practice of their professions and other related disciplines; (3) apply the acquired knowledge and develop skills in the application of biotechnology, genetic control, and environmental manipulation technologies to improve agricultural production and maintain quality agro-ecosystems; and (4) work independently and/or in multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural teams of related fields, with minimal supervision.
BS ABT is the youngest among the four (4) BS programs offered by CAFS. The BS ABT program aims to produce graduates who are trained in biotechnology to enhance the country’s agricultural production and promote inclusive development. Graduates of this program will be qualified to teach in academic institutions, join various government agencies, work in research laboratories, or engage in entrepreneurship.
In addition to general education, legislative and foundation courses, BS ABT students are required to take 21 units of major core courses, 12 units of specialized courses, 6 units of elective, 2 units of undergraduate seminar, 6 units of thesis or major practice, and 3 units of practicum or special problem.
Animal Biotechnology is one of the major fields in BS ABT. Others include Crop Protection Biotechnology, Crop Biotechnology and Food Biotechnology. Animal Biotechnology major students take Animal Biotechnology and Animal Science courses for their specialized courses and are expected to integrate and apply biotechnology to the different disciplines in Animal Science.
